What is the application process?

You can apply for a Youth Mobility Scheme visa up to 6 months before you intend to travel. Once you have applied and provided all the necessary paperwork, you are likely to receive a decision within 3 weeks. There is a charge for the visa which includes the application fee (currently £244), and a healthcare surcharge of around £470. There may also be other eligibility requirements you need to be aware of.

Please note that if you are from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea or Taiwan, you much be selected in the Youth Mobility Scheme Ballot before you can apply.

 

What can you do once you are in the UK on a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa?

Once you are given a visa, you can live and work in the UK for up to 24 months. You can even choose to come and go during this period, but it is important to remember that as soon as you enter the UK, your visa will be activated. This means that you have 2 years from that data to live and work in the UK.

Whilst you are in the UK, you can work in a wide variety of jobs and can earn a wage. You can also study for some courses, but you will need an Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate to do this. It’s also important to note that you are not paid to study in the UK.

Increase your savings. Working in the UK can be very profitable and can help you to increase the money in your bank account. The national minimum wage currently ranges from £6.56 to £8.91 per hour. Although, this is set to rise further in April 2022.
