How much does a Warehouse Operative get paid?

The current average salary for warehouse operatives in the UK is currently £11.50 per hour. However, you can earn more if you have an FLT license. After you have gained more experience, you can earn around £27,965 in a team leader role. Warehouse Managers earn considerably more than this. But even as an operative there are ways to earn more with overtime and shift allowance.

What are the working conditions like?

Firstly, let’s start with the working hours. In most cases you will work a 40-hour week. usually on a shift basis covering 5 to 7 days. However, overtime is sometimes available too.

Most modern warehouses are light and spacious. If you work in an area where special conditions must be maintained due to the goods stored, you may have to wear special clothing. Safety shoes are a must, but you may also need an insulated jacker or overalls.

What skills do I need?

For more Warehouse Operative roles, you don’t need any qualifications. This means that this role is open to all and can create a fantastic career path.  What you will need are strong team work ethics and great communication skills. You’ll also need to be organised and physically fit to be able to move stock. And as most warehouses use stock management systems, some basic computer skills will go a long way.
